In-Person Sessions Return

The June session of Escuela para Padres was a special one, as it was the first to be held in person since the pandemic began. To mark it, the psychologist María Espinosa delivered the theme “Finding the balance to guide my child” on Wednesday 15 June in the cafeteria of Las Quintas Campus. Being a workshop, it called for the participation of those attending, who took part enthusiastically.

In what was also the last session of the school year, techniques were offered for achieving the goal of balancing love and discipline in raising children. Working in teams, participants carried out activities that helped them identify the parenting style they most often fall back on, and understand the benefits of applying the principles of effective discipline — which helps children feel a sense of connection, is kind and firm at the same time, is effective in the long term, invites children to discover how capable they are, and teaches social and life skills valuable in forming an integral character.

In this way parents discovered that there are effective and sustainable ways of guiding children towards becoming responsible, happy people capable of making decisions and solving problems for themselves.

Those attending were receptive and willing to carry out the exercises, which made clear to them the effective way of approaching conflict at every stage of growing up. They were also able to see the situation from their children’s perspective, in order to understand and resolve the situations that arise day to day.

The speaker is certified as a trainer by the PDA (Positive Discipline Association) and specialises in the neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children and young people with special educational needs and other learning difficulties at the psychological care centre she directs, SIPA (Soluciones Integrales en Psicología y Aprendizaje).

Oxford has established itself among the 20 schools worldwide holding the Lab School certification awarded by the Positive Discipline Association, thanks to our promoting our teachers’ training in this discipline for the proven advantages it brings to students’ all-round development.

Escuela para Padres is an Oxford programme offering monthly sessions on subjects that provide tools to support children’s all-round development. It is open to the public, completely free, and has also been delivered through virtual sessions.
