Oxfordian Life
Debut at the First LEGO League Challenge

The Bullbots team represented The Oxfordian School on its debut at the First LEGO League Challenge 2023-2024 competition, held on 27 January in Monterrey, Nuevo León, where the Oxfordians — aged between 10 and 12 — placed 16th out of 46 teams, most of which were made up of students older than they were.
The students Ivanna Marine de León Hernández, César Isaac Guevara Gómez, Sofía Huerta Torres, Seojun Lee Kang, Hugo Hiram Lerma de La Cruz, Elvis Liang Feng, René de Jesús López López, Rodrigo Luebbert Solís, Iker Iván Morales San Juan and Jesús Gabriel Ramírez Vicencio, of Las Quintas Campus, make up the Bullbots. Guided by their teacher Ms. Zamora, and by the co-curricular classes coordinator Ms. Galván, they are the first to take part in this annual event organised by FIRST® and LEGO® Education, who joined forces in 1998 to create FIRST LEGO League, where students explore a real-world theme while developing skills in programming, mechanics, research, creativity, teamwork, innovation and communication.
This year the competition was named Masterpiece, a theme that inspired the students to imagine and innovate new ways of creating and communicating art around the world. First collaborated with experts in the fields of museums, theatres and other creative areas to give rise to the theme and to missions that reflect what it takes to communicate with, involve and entertain an audience of any size.
The First LEGO League Masterpiece season allowed students to see the wide range of opportunities open to them in the STEAM industry and beyond. Through their exploration as part of Masterpiece, students learned how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics relate to the arts in surprisingly integral ways.
First’s programmes, such as the one taught at Las Quintas Campus, encourage students to take up career paths related to STEAM and to engage positively with these areas of learning, as well as promoting the development of holistic skills.
The Oxfordian School became the first private institution in Tamaulipas to implement LEGO Education’s educational solutions in its classes. LEGO’s SPIKE Prime, used in the fifth and sixth grades at Las Quintas Campus, is a highly useful tool in the work of guiding students on the exciting STEAM journey (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).
Besides a great experience, the students taking part in this activity developed their skills in critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, adaptability, innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, communication, and accessing and analysing information, as well as curiosity and imagination. They likewise develop holistic physical, cognitive, emotional, creative and social skills.
Also notable are the values the challenge promotes: teamwork, fun, inclusion, discovery, impact and innovation.
It is for this reason that this programme motivates children and adolescents to make an impact on their community through Science and Technology.
First and LEGO Education are pioneering organisations in hands-on learning, Robotics and STEAM Education.
