Community Connection
Live Green
Ecological awareness and the efficient use of resources are taught inside the curriculum itself, then carried out into the community.
The school was certified as an environmental leader by SEMARNAT, Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, under a national programme that has since been retired. We are now beginning the process to join Eco-Schools Mexico, part of the Greening Education Partnership supporting UNESCO’s global standard for green schools. Live Green is not a club that runs alongside the school day, ecological awareness and the efficient use of resources are taught inside the curriculum itself, then carried out into the community through the work below.
Built into the Science and Reading blocks from first grade: ecosystems, pollution and the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle and compost in the early grades; biodiversity, conservation and stewardship in second; evolution and species extinction in fourth and sixth; ecosystem care in fifth.
Third graders evaluate the air, soil and water quality of their own community to identify local pollutants; fourth and sixth graders weigh the environmental footprint of the materials we manufacture; fifth graders study how water pollution can be prevented.
Recyclable materials collected regularly with the support of students, staff, businesses and the wider community.
Students create organic gardens in rural schools to contribute to environmental improvement.
ECOFEST is where the work goes public: our 2026 stand was the Eco Lounge, a reading corner of bookshelves and armchairs built entirely from used tyres, 100% recycled, alongside the Cultura del Agua stand run with COMAPA on household water saving.
Certified for environmental leadership by SEMARNAT under a national programme that has since been retired; the Eco-Schools Mexico process is now under way. Live Green is carried on the school’s operational distribution list at livegreen@oxfordreynosa.edu.mx.
