A Virtual Tour of the World

A Virtual Tour of the World

The secondary students offered a virtual tour of different world cultures through World’s Fair, held in the last week before the Easter holiday. From 22 to 25 March they presented this interdisciplinary project as part of their English classes, testing the skills they have developed during online sessions: gathering information, speaking in public, working as a team, adaptability and resilience. The activity had each team present the wonders of the country assigned to them as though they were members of a travel agency, with the aim of convincing the “tourist” to visit by presenting travel packages. For this they created a web page that served as a guide during their presentation, which ran between eight and ten minutes. The students offered valuable information about the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. The presentations took place by Google Meet video call in the presence of judges who assessed different areas such as the role play, the sales pitch, the reliability of the data, the presentation of information and verbal delivery. Students’ families and staff from every area of the school were also invited. In this way we were able to enjoy genuinely interesting facts about iconic monuments including the Statue of Liberty in New York, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Taj Mahal in India, among many other places. Once again the leadership of Oxfordian students was clear, along with the multicultural values that characterise us and that activities of this kind promote.
