She Will Represent Mexico Internationally

The student Karla Isari Rodríguez Méndez, of 10th grade, has been called up to join the Mexican flag football squad taking part in the international summer tournament to be held in June in Boston, Massachusetts.

Karla, who has played flag football since she was 12, is one of three players from Tamaulipas (all from Reynosa) chosen to form part of the U16 squad representing Mexico; alongside her are Any Garza and Najee Bogarth. The invitation from the coach and president of the Flag Football national team in Mexico, Rebeca Corchado, was passed on to them by the trainer Jesús Díaz at the Polideportivo in Reynosa in mid-May, and since then they have intensified their training daily — as Karla mentions in an interview, “giving my greatest effort in every one of my matches” in order to arrive well prepared for the competition.

“I felt very excited by this opportunity and by having reached this stage at my young age,” Karla says of how she received the news, adding that her family is her greatest motivation. “Being an example of effort for my brothers and sisters, and for my coach for believing in me; and also the fact that some of my dreams are to play abroad and to be a recognised flag football player,” she said.

The training camp will take place on 14 June in Mexico City, from where they will travel to Boston on the 21st of the same month. Harvard University will host the tournament, in which more than 200 teams will take part across various categories.

Whoever is champion in each category will receive half the entry fee for the Flag Football World Series, to be held at Disney in 2023.

This is a great opportunity to live an unforgettable sporting experience.
